Meet Our Rector
Background
Prior to being called as the
Rector of St. Mary’s Church Portsmouth the Reverend Canon Pamela
Jane Mott was the Canon Pastor at Trinity Cathedral in Portland,
Oregon, a congregation of approximately 2000 people with a vital
urban ministry and serves as the Cathedral for the Diocese of
Oregon.
In addition to
her liturgical and teaching duties, her primary responsibilities
included the development of a pastoral care team to minister to
those who are ill, homebound or in crisis, the incorporation of
newcomers within the congregation, approximately 300 annually, and
the development of a vocational discernment program to support
anyone in exploring his or her vocation.
During nineteen
years of ministry in rural and urban, large and small parishes, Pam
developed and supported innovative programs to improve lay
leadership, Christian formation, stewardship, and strengthen
community. She spent four years as the Rector of St. Eustace Church,
Lake Placid
,New York, where financial and spiritual stewardship grew and deepened.
Prior to her
time in Lake Placid
, she was the Curate and Associate Rector of Grace Church in
Millbrook
,New York, which supported her in ordination. At Grace Church Pam created a
third “family friendly” service and within two weeks the service
became the largest in attendance. Part of her work there included
working with a team seeking to develop an infant
DayCareCenter, along with a planned building project.
Pam has also
served as an assistant Chaplin and teacher at the
HotchkissSchoolin
Lakeville
,Connecticut. During this unique opportunity she taught boarding students in
grades 9-12 the subjects of religion, ethics and English.
Education
Pam attended
the State University of New York, Fredonia, Pam graduating in 1978
with a B.A. in Philosophy, English, and Religious Studies. In 1985,
she received her Certificate of Anglican Studies at BerkeleyDivinitySchooland also was awarded a Masters of Divinity by
Yale Divinity Schoolin
New Haven,
Connecticut.
Interests
Pam enjoys
reading, weaving, walking, exploring and relaxing with friends and
family.
